Without the token, you can only view data. You need the token to perform any actions.
Leave as default unless you're using GitHub Enterprise Server.
How to create a personal access token
This tool only ever needs permission to follow and unfollow users on your behalf — nothing else.
  1. Settings → Developer settings → Personal access tokens → Fine-grained tokens → Generate new token
  2. Under Account permissions, set Followers to Read and write
  3. Leave repository access as No access, then generate and copy the token

Discover New People to Follow

Searches GitHub's real search index using real filters. There's no "gender" field on GitHub — it isn't offered here. Basic search is cheap on your rate limit; Deep Filter fetches full profiles and is capped (see Settings).

Basic search cards show only avatar, username, and profile link — GitHub's search results don't include location/followers/etc. per user, only whether they matched.
